The innovative concept of "Deep Water Workout" was developed in
1988 in Huntsville, Alabama, USA, by Pat Mirandy, a fitness program
director and Dr. Joe Manjone, a certified therapeutic recreation
specialist.
Deep Water Workout Centre was established in 1998. Its founder
and CEO is Mr. John Teck, a certified "Deep Water Workout"
instructor. The vision to start this company began in early 1998
when Dr. Joe was in Singapore conducting lectures for the United
States Sports Academy Sports Management course. One evening, after
class, Dr. Joe explained the concept of the DWW program. The passion
to bring this new and wonderful program to Singapore started from
that discussion.
Today, the company is actively promoting the DWW aquatic exercise
& therapy program and hopes to encourage the many thousands,
including the senior citizens, the physically weak, and those with
sedentary lifestyles, to enjoy themselves and keep fit at the same
time. Exercising in the deep end of the pool with a DWW floatation
belt gives a cool and invigorating feeling, which is why we call
it a "cool way to keep fit".
The company is the pioneer in conducting certified DWW instructor
courses and has already organized the fourth intake of students.
Among the students are:
- Aquatic coordinators and instructors
- Physical educators
- Fitness professionals
- Physical therapists
- Aerobics instructors
- Aquatic enthusiasts
The company is also organizing DWW group exercise sessions. Among
the places where classes are conducted-with some ongoing-are:
1) Singapore Swimming Club
2) NTUC Downtown East
3) Warren Golf & Country Club
4) British Club
5) Civil Defence Sports Club (Bukit Batok)
6) Nanyang Girls' Alumni
7) Hwa Chong Alumni
8) Nanyang Polytechnic
9) Trinity Church Complex (Paya Lebar)
10) Singapore Polytechnic Graduates' Guild
11) Hillside Condominium
12) Serangoon Gardens Country Club
13) Shelford Condominium
14) Simei Green Condominium
15) Keppel Club
16) Bukit Batok Swimming Complex
17) Singapore Recreation Club
18) Temasek Club
19) Springdale Condominium Bukit Timah
In 2002, the company decided to design & manufacture improved
versions of the floatation belts and accessories. These Velcro-based
belts are now used by all our students for aquatic exercise and
therapy, together with local sales to the medical and sports therapy
professions.
Shipments of our floatation belts have been sent to Alabama, USA,
and many countries around the world for aquatic fitness & aquatic
therapy. We also plan to expand our online DWW instructor courses
to the ASEAN countries.
